Beauty filters, an incredible invention, and St. Peter Gonzalez
Greetings and salutations! Mid-week is always a mixed bag…so here’s hoping you have a bag of blessings and they’re raining down on you.
1. Got me thinking
Claire Pescott is a researcher at the University of South Wales who studies the behavior of preteens on social media. In focus groups, she’s observed a gender difference when it comes to filters. “All of the boys said, ‘These are really fun. I like to put on these funny ears, I like to share them with my friends and we have a laugh,’” she says. Young girls, however, see AR filters primarily as a tool for beautification: “[The girls] were all saying things like, ‘I put this filter on because I have flawless skin. It takes away my scars and spots.’ And these were children of 10 and 11.”

2. An incredible invention
Oh! You guys! I HAD NO IDEA! From one of my favorite podcasts (you can listen to this from your computer), a six-minute story I LOVED.
3. Saint of the Day: St. Peter Gonzalez
St. Peter Gonzales lived 1190-1246, son of nobles and with a sense of entitlement for a priestly office. "He paraded through the town on horseback, magnificently equipped, but in the noise and excitement the animal reared and threw him upon a dung heap. The Spanish people, who have a fine sense of comedy, responded with loud gusts of laughter. Picking himself up in shame, he cried: 'If the world mocks me, henceforth, I will mock the world.' Covered with filth and confusion, Peter withdrew to clean up and ponder his sins."
But, get this: He ended up experiencing a conversion. Who says a pile of dung can't turn things around? This makes me love St. Peter Gonzales in a whole new way, because who among us hasn't experienced a dungheap in life?
He became a great preacher and is the patron of sailors, boatmen, and fishermen.
Prayer for today: St. Peter Gonzalez, pray for us that our daily actions will be an inspiration to other peoples faith. 🙏
Make it an amazing day, my friends!
Blessings and coffee,
Sarah
