Howdy there, my friends! It’s Friday, and I’ve noticed a trend in my non-Catholic workplace: saying “Happy Friday.” It’s interesting, because Friday is happy and good, but it’s also a day when we remember Jesus’ sacrifice for us. Just one of the many points of reflection I have now that I’m not working in Catholic circles.
1. Are your texts safe?
It’s getting really easy to get alerts and text updates from…everyone! Businesses and online services can be as much a part of your text messages as your friends and family members.
But be aware of how you should be protecting yourself.
2. Feel-good book recs
Sometimes, you just need a book that makes you feel good. I’ve read some of the books recommended on this list, and have flagged a couple of others.
3. Saint of the Day: St. Bernadette Soubirous
St. Bernadette Soubirous is best known as the visionary from Mary’s appearances at Lourdes, France. What’s most interesting to me about Bernadette, though, is the fact that she is now considered a saint, not because Mary appeared to her (though that is indeed noteworthy), but because of the life she lived after those visits.
Bernadette spent the last 15 years of her life as Sister Marie Bernard in the convent of the Sisters of Charity in Nevers, France. Her incorrupt body is still there, as a matter of fact.
Bernadette teaches us humility and how to embrace suffering. She’s a wonderful patron for those who suffer illness, and loved to care for the sick sisters while she was in the convent.
Prayer for today by St. Bernadette: O Jesus, give me I pray …
the bread of humility, the bread of obedience, the bread of charity,
the bread of strength to break my will, and make it one with yours,
the bread of patience to bear the pain my heart endures,
the bread to see you and you alone in all things and always! 🙏
Here’s hoping you have a safe and sunny weekend, even if that doesn’t include actual sunshine (after all, with the right books, you can make your own 😉).
Blessings and coffee,
Sarah
